FASTER TEAM 21 RESPONDS TO BEAUMONT NURSING HOME
July 29 - At 6:00am, Stations 23 (Bryn Mawr) and 24 (Gladwyne) were dispatched to 601 North Ithan Avenue (Beaumont Nursing Home), for a building fire with the caller advising of a fire in the dining room and other areas. LMPD arrived on scene and reported fire in the kitchen with a heavy smoke condition. With this report, Engine 21 (Penn Wynne) was dispatched as the FAST team, along with Rescue 22 (Belmont Hills) for the air cascade. The fire was knocked promptly by the sprinkler system installed, and the job was finished off by 23's first in crew. Great job done by all!

FIRE PREVENTION AT KAISERMAN JCC DAY CAMP
July 8 - Career Firefighter Sean Reilly, Engineer Domenick Crimi, and Firefighters Mitch Stern, Dan Gilbert and Eric Norris, took Engine 21 around the corner to the Kaiserman JCC Day Camp to hold a fire safety lesson for the campers. The camp started off by conducting a fire drill when the Penn Wynne crew arrived. After observing the drill and making suggestions to camp staff, the campers were gathered together for a fire safety session led by Career Firefighter Sean Reilly. The campers were showed around Engine 21, the various tools firefighters use in their work, and the protective gear firefighters wear by having one of their teachers put on a full set of turnout gear. The campers had a fun time, while at the same time learning about fire safety.

JULY 4TH CELEBRATION
July 4 - Penn Wynne volunteer firefighters and the community joined together in Penn Wynne for the annual 4th of July Celebration. The festivities were kicked off at 11am with a parade through the streets of the neighborhood. The parade included personnel from the Lower Merion Police Department and Narberth Ambulance, in addition to the many young bicyclists who decorated their bikes for judging. The parade commenced at the Penn Wynne Elementary School where awards were given out, and food stands, games and rides were set up. Two firefighters from the Penn Wynne Fire Company, Chris Millay and Steve Kaercher, were presented with the Grand Marshall's Award for their quick actions taken on April 29th following an accident in front of the firehouse, where Quinn Hovey, a young local resident, was struck by a car. Chris and Steve quickly responded and stabilized the scene for the arrival of Narberth Ambulance, who provided additional care and transport. If not for the quick actions taken by Chris and Steve, a valuable member of our community may not be with us today. For the perseverance showed by Quinn through many tough medical procedures, the Penn Wynne Fire Company presented Quinn with some Station 21 merchandise.

Food and refreshments were made available by many local business establishments as well. An uneventful night went on fire protection wise, but Penn Wynne members and their families had an excellent time enjoying the fireworks show.
