ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARADE
Date: 10/30/05 Today, members organized our Annual Halloween Parade for the children in the community. The children were entertained by "Poly the Magician", and then paraded around the firehouse to be judged for the scariest, funniest, and the most origianal costumes. Even Assistant Chief Paul Daly got into the mood. Thanks to the Halloween committee for organizing this event and all of the members who participated. Right before the event started, Station 21 was dispatched to the 1400 block of Knox Rd. for the dwelling, reported to be the kitchen. Station 25 (Ardmore) was added to the assignment. 21-52 (Assistant Chief M. Gilbert) arrived and reported a dryer malfunction in the kitchen. The situation was quickly placed under control by securing the utilities to the unit.

PENN WYNNE'S PAST
Date: 10/26/05 Recently, Station 21 was contacted by Earl Phillips, the son of the late David C. Phillips, who was a past member of the Penn Wynne Fire Company. David Philips was a member of Penn Wynne from 1957 to 1965, and was a past Deputy Chief of the company. In addition, from 1960-1965 he was one of the two "paid men" who staffed the station 24-hours a day, with rotating 24-on/24-off shifts. We would like to thank Earl Phillips for contacting us and passing along the pictures and information.

ROPE/HIGH ANGLE 1 COMPLETED
Date: 10/19/05 Tonight, members completed our Rope/High Angle I class taught by Penn Wynne Engineer/Bucks County Instructor Chris Feder. In tonight's scenario, we simulated an upgrade rescue. Member broke up into two teams, a roof team and a ground team. Roof team members packaged the patient in the stokes basket to be lowered to the ground. The ground team set up a hauling line with a brake rack, and a belay line with a Figure 8. A 4:1 mechanical advantage was also attached to the hauling line. Thanks to all of the members who were able to attend this class.

ROPE/HIGH ANGLE RESCUE 1
Date: 10/16/05 Today, members from stations 21 (Penn Wynne) and 28 (Union) conducted hands on evolutions for Rope/High Angle Rescue I. This was day one of a three day course. Today's topics covered basic ascending (prusik climb) and descending (rappelling) techniques, anchors and anchor selection, the picket system, the simple mechanical advantage system and patient packaging. The class then conducted a rescue scenario. A victim was placed at the bottom of a 45', steep angled hill at Wynnewood Valley Park. Members then set up an anchoring system, rappelled down to the victim, and began patient care. Atop the hill, a simple, 4:1 mechanical advantage system was placed into service and secured to a 1-1-1 picket system. The mock victim and rescue personnel were hauled up by a dual rope system (haul line and belay line). Once the scenario was complete, members set up a "Zip Line" and had some fun. A high line was setup on a hill using two trees approximately 125’ from each other. A special thanks goes out to the Bucks County Public Safety Training Center and Firefighter/Bucks Instructor Chris Feder for conducting this class. We would also like to thank Career Firefighter Sean Reilly and Firefighter Daniel Gilbert for their assistance. In addition, the Penn Wynne Fire Company would also like to thank Station 28 for the use of their technical rescue equipment.
