For tonight's drill, members practiced search techniques and FAST (Firefighter Assist Search Team) operations. The club room was transformed into a maze like environment using folding tables. Crews practiced searching with and without the use of a search rope. A simulated emergency requiring a MAYDAY occurred, and the FAST went into action. This was a good reminder of how communication and teamwork are needed on these types of incidents. As far as fire incidents goes, the company has been its usual quiet self, responding to a few alarms, an oil burner backfire, and an out-of-district door pop vehicle rescue. We'll have to wait and see what's in store for the 21 house for the remainder of the fire season.
BILLY G. VISITS THE KINGDOM
Date:
1/16/06
Tonight, members of Station 21, along with the rest of the
LMFD, attended the training session, "Firefighters Scared Straight", taught by Billy Goldfeder, E.F.O.,
Deputy Chief of the Loveland - Symmes Fire Department, Ohio. Lessons learned included safety and
accountability on the fireground. Chief Goldfeder's class acts as a wake up call to the Brothers and
Sisters in our profession to use common sense and protect ourselves on the scene of an emergency. Chief
Goldfeder is an Associate/Contributing Editor for Fire Engineering Magazine, Fire Rescue, Firehouse, NY
FASNY Firefighter, and the Pennsylvania Fireman. Billy is also co-host of www.firefighterclosecalls.com,
a site dedicated to the safety and survival of firefighters. We would like to take this time to thank
Chief Goldfeder, and hope his lessons will be reflected upon and practiced by all of the members of the LMFD.
The fact that this class was attended by more than 115 members says a lot about the dedication to training
in the LMFD. "May We Never Let Our Training Fail Us".
