Congratulations to the following members who successfully passed the National Hazmat Technician certification which we recently completed. Chief John Fallon, Engineers Reilly, Millay, Feder and Jeff Fallon, and Firefighter Eric Norris. The firehouse now has all firefighters certified at the Operations or Technician level.
ENGINE & RESCUE GO TO THE EXPRESSWAY

At 15:12 hours, Station 22 (Belmont Hills) and Rescue 21 were dispatch to the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway at City Ave for a vehicle rescue. Engine 21 was out on a pre plan, and took in the assignment. Rescue and Deputy 22 (R. Burdo Sr.) arrived and had a car into the rear of a box truck. Engine and Rescue 21's crew assisted in stabilization and a roof removal. The station was available at 15:48.
VIGILANT NEIGHBOR OVERTS DISASTER

At 20:35 hours station 21, along with station 26 Narberth, were dispatched to the 1400 block of Hamstead Road for a reported dwelling fire. A 911 call from a resident reported seeing smoke from their neighbors house, which was under construction. Engine 21 arrived and reported a two story twin with smoke showing. The crew stretched an 1.75 inch hand line, and had to force entry into the home. The crew encountered a house that was fulled charged with smoke. Utilizing the TIC (thermal imaging camera), the crew found a pile of wood dust from a floor sander. The fire was quickly extinguished, and spent some time ventilating and overhauling. The company was availabe at 21:16. Units on the assignment were 21, 26, E25, RIT Squad 23, Air 24, and Medic 313.

At 16:24 hours the station was dispatched to Berwind Road for a reported electrical outlet sparking. Upon E-21's investigation, they found that an electrical outlet shorted out, shooting sparks out from it. These sparks then began a smoldering fire in the mattress. The homeowners quickly utillized their dry chemical extinguisher. Crews removed the mattress and pulled the booster line to wet it down. A quick check of the wall around the outlet found negative extension.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN

The Penn Wynne Fire Company in conjunction with the Montgomery County Fire Academy, will be hosting a Hazardous Materials Technician class. This course will be instructed by the Montgomery County Fire Academy and held at the Penn Wynne Fire Company (1440 Manoa Rd, Wynnewood, PA) in Lower Merion Township.
Upon successful completion of the national test, students will receive a Hazardous Materials Technician certificate from the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).
Dates: March 3rd and 4th, and March 10th and 11th Time: 8 AM - 4 PM Prerequisites: 18 years old, Hazardous Materials Ops (16 or 24 hour class) Cost: $40 for course textbook
